Anonymous Press Release on Latest Financial Times Accusations re: Sony

In Politic on May 7, 2011 at 2:40 am

For Immediate Distribution
Press Release
May 6, 2011
Anonymous Holdings LLC (Bermuda)

Today, an article appeared in Financial Times making the case for Anonymous’ alleged involvement in the heist of some hundred million user accounts from Sony, a crime which is now being investigated by Congress, the Justice Department, and other entities. The piece has already been widely referenced and is being used by many who oppose Anonymous for various reasons as proof that those who participate in the collective are responsible for that heist. Unfortunately, the article is problematic for a variety of reasons.

1. One of the two reporters who contributed to the article, Joseph Menn, has previously written on Anonymous in what he and Financial Times also considered to be a scoop. The resulting piece, “Hackers Warned of Arrest,” used HBGary CEO Aaron Barr as the only quoted source. Barr claimed that he had identified various “leaders” of Anonymous, referring to a participant who went by “Q” at the time as the “co-founder” of the movement. As it turned out later, Barr had believed this because Q had created a channel in Anonops.irc called #Anonymous a few months prior. Anyone with even a passing familiarity with internet culture could have easily refuted this key assertion by Barr, and in fact many immediately did so; Menn, on the other hand, did not bother to do the research that would have led him to realize that Anonymous was not founded at all, much less co-founded by Q. Much else reported by Menn was similarly incorrect, such as Barr’s assertion that Q was looking for a replacement for a server administrator who goes by the name “Owen,” who was himself allegedly forced to “curtail” his activities. In fact, Owen has not been replaced at all and has remained just as active as usual for the five months since Barr used Menn to promote his hilarious “research.” This failure of a news article may be seen here:

2. Today’s article is entitled, “Hackers Admit Anonymous Likely Behind Sony Attack.” That assertion is backed by interviews with two individuals, one being Kayla, who participated in the infiltration of HBGary after Menn provided Barr with the opportunity to make his claims. Kayla tells Menn that “If you say you are Anonymous, and do something as Anonymous, then Anonymous did it.” Meaning that anyone who calls himself Anonymous is Anonymous and thus the collective is responsible for the act in question. This is not the definition of Anonymous that was used by Menn when reporting on Anonymous originally, when Barr’s investigation centered on the Anonops server from which much of our activities are carried out. Nor is it the definition used by law enforcement officials, whose investigations have long centered on Anonops for that very reason. Nonetheless, Financial Times is suddenly using a broader definition of Anonymous – one that includes the hundreds of thousands of people who refer to themselves as Anonymous despite having no connection to any of the actions attributed to the group – in order to support its “scoop” to the effect that Anonymous was indeed responsible. In fact, FT reports elsewhere in the article that “US law enforcement agencies are already looking closely at Anonymous;” obviously the FBI is not looking at hundreds of thousands of people, but rather those operating out of a few nodes of activity. Although there is no set definition of Anonymous, those referring to the movement should stick with a single one rather than changing it as necessary in order to support a flimsy article, and then changing it again within that very article.

3. The other individual quoted is referred by Menn and his co-writer as an “Anonymous member” even though there is no way to verify that the individual is truly a participant in Anonymous, rather than someone who is pretending to be so in order to discredit those who are actually involved in our activities. The person claimed to FT that “he saw technical details of a vulnerability in Sony’s network that enabled the break-in discussed on an Anonymous chatroom, shortly before the intrusion.” Thus it is that the main piece of supporting evidence for a major allegation that is someone who is believed to be in the know by a journalist who has previously failed to determine who is in the know claims that someone else posted something that he claims to be related to the hack. Here, then, is the article that has prompted the storyline that is alleged to prove Anonymous’ guilt:

We do not forget. Seriously, why is Menn still permitted to write about significant criminal matters?

Arab Popular Revolts and Counter Revolutionary Forces That Oppose Them

In Politic on April 23, 2011 at 6:42 pm

The Egyptian revolution and the Tunisian revolution have an interesting history. Within the context of; How did the protest by suicide death of a street vendor in Tunisia spark an open revolt on the governing forces? What connections to the Egyptian revolution are there, if any? As the legitimate forces, the people of these countries responded and overthrew the ruling autocracy with a popular revolution. The counter revolutions by the statists, with new figure heads or dictators in waiting, they plan to keep control under the cloak of impartial broker between the old regimes forces and the people. This counter revolution is completely unsatisfactory to the people. The people want real change and not some artificial state. Again, protestors are organizing and building momentum in Cairo. Again, the state is using brute force to intimidate and establish ‘their’ rule. As the fight for human rights continues in Egypt, Tunisia, Libya and the rest of the Arab world in revolt, the questions that remain are ominous in light of the evidence. Here is a video that looks at some of these questions, it’s fast paced and hits on some facts that are not well known. It illustrates how outside forces are used to undermine peoples sentiments and manipulate popular revolutions. Thanks to Anarchitext @ YouTube for making this video possible.

To The Youth of America

In Politic on April 20, 2011 at 5:29 pm

Text from The Blast, Vol. 2, #5, 6/1/1917
By Alexander Berkman

Tyranny must be opposed at the start. Autocracy, once secured in the saddle, is difficult to dislodge. If you believe that America is entering the war “to make democracy safe,” then be a man and volunteer. But if you know anything at all, then you should know that the cry of democracy is a lie and a snare for the unthinking. You should know that a republic is not synonymous with democracy, and that America has never been a real democracy, but that it is the vilest plutocracy on the face of the globe. If you can see, hear, feel, and think, you should know that King Dollar rules the United States, and that the workers are robbed and exploited in this country to the heart’s content of the masters. If you are not deaf, dumb, and blind, then you know that the American bourgeois democracy and capitalistic civilization are the worst enemies of labor and progress, and that instead of protecting them, you should help to fight to destroy them. If you know this, you must also know that the workers of America have no enemy in the toilers of other countries. Indeed, the workers of Germany suffer as much from their exploiters and rulers as do the masses of America. You should know that the interests of Labor are identical in all countries. Their cause is international. Then why should they slaughter each other? The workers of Germany have been misled by their rulers into donning the uniform and turning murders. So have the workers of France, of Italy, and England been misled. But why should *you*, men of America, allow yourselves to be misled into murder or into being murdered? If your blood must be shed, let it be in defense of your own interests, in the war of the workers against their despoilers, in the cause of real liberty and independence.

A Little Anarchist Humor

In Politic on April 19, 2011 at 4:29 pm

A little boy goes to his dad and ask, “What is politics?” Dad says,”Well, son, let me try to explain it this way: I’m the breadwinner of the family, so let’s call me Capitalism. Your Mom, she’s the administrator of the money, so we’ll call her the Government. We’re here to take care of your needs, so we’ll call you the People. The nanny, we’ll consider her the Working Class. And your baby brother, we’ll call him the Future. Now, think about that and see if that makes sense.” So the little boy goes off to bed thinking about what Dad has said. Later that night, he hears his baby brother crying, so he gets up to check on him. He finds that the baby has soiled his diaper. So the little boy goes to his parents’ room and finds his mother sound asleep. Not wanting to wake her, he goes to the nanny’s room. Finding the door locked, he peeks in the keyhole and sees his father in bed with the nanny. He gives up and goes back to bed. The next morning, the little boy says to his father,”Dad, I think I understand the concept of politics now.” The father says,”Good, son, tell me in your own words what you think politics is all about” The little boy replies, “Well, while Capitalism is screwing the Working Class, the Government is sound asleep, the People are being ignored and the Future is in Deep Shit.

Interview with Chris Hedges – Death of the Liberal Class

Interview with Chris Hedges – Death of the Liberal Class

Every so often you come across a book, video or something that says what you have been trying to articulate in a way that you can’t. In the interview Chris Hedges nails the down the state of the US plutocracy with the concise historical references and facts. I was riveted by this interview, the current political state in the USA is laid bare. I am in the process of getting Chris’s book and will also get a copy for my local public library. On that note, I am always searching for answers to the questions before me and I want to thank Rich Zubaty (twitter @RichZubaty) for enlightening me to this author and political philosopher. Caution, this video interview may be shocking to those who are not reality based. Enjoy!

Operation Sony

In Politic on April 6, 2011 at 9:18 pm

It appears the Sony corporation has been trying to persecute several free speech advocates and Anonymous hacktivists have responded. This is going to be a fight Sony will never win. Anonymous has the capacity to carry this out over any length of time Sony chooses. Anonymous has complete asymmetric superiority in its tool kit. It is my opinion Sony best cede its stance on this issue and understand that its products will be hacked to pieces in perpetuity. You can not stop human curiosity and the free exchange of knowledge. These are basic human rights, to exchange ideas, share knowledge and free speech. As this story, #OpSony is already more than a week old I will add the occasional update as the battle will ‘likely’ escalate.

As of 04/27/2011 Sony’s PlayStation shit is in near ruin. Do not fuck with Anonymous. Stop the persecution of the curious. Drop all charges. No compromise, no negotiations, do not fuck with Anonymous!

Fukushima Nuclear Crisis

In Politic on March 17, 2011 at 4:23 pm

The Fukushima nuclear crisis has been brought on by the lies and deceit from the entire nuclear industry, primarily blame can be laid on the Japanese Government and the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO). Problems were immediate at the TEPCO Daiichi plant right from the time of the earthquake (Friday, March 11, 2011 at 05:46:23 UTC) and forward. Within minutes a 7.3+meter tsunami swamped the plant and killed the backup power supply rendering the plant dead. It was 24hours before the world started to get any idea that a catastrophe was in the making. Approximately 72 hours after the earthquake TEPCO abandoned the plant.  Today (about 12hours ago) they attempted to douse the meltdown with helicopter drops of water. The helicopter drops were for the cameras, it was a pathetic attempt to douse a nuclear meltdown with water. I have seen firefighters in the Rocky Mountains risk more and try harder to put out a forest fire, the Japanese effort was nothing short of feeble. The incompetence and obfuscation of responsibility continued with a half hearted attempt to send in the Tokyo metro riot police with their water cannon. This failed because the area is to radioactive and simply not approachable. To further underscore the problem with the Fukushima Daiichi plant the US 7th fleet who’s nuclear powered aircraft carrier has experts and nuclear safety suits left the area after some crew were exposed. So, it appears Japan has quit in its incompetent effort to squelch any further meltdown and is asking for support from elsewhere in the world to come and save them from their own undoing. The longer these several reactors smoulder it is going to get worse. Humanity is left with no option other than to ask people to sacrifice themselves to control the nuclear fuels. To me it is straight forward, gather the executives of TEPCO (and any other pro-nuke shill) and make them clean this up today at any cost.

Update: 0400 3/17/2011

Beginning at (0500utc) 2:00pm Japan Local Time water pump trucks from the local area airport authorities and fire departments will lend there best hardware, skill and ultimately their lives to pump water on the Fukushima Daiichi Reactors and fuel ponds. This watering effort is timed with the TEPCO effort to get a 6.7kva power cable to the facility.

Update 1730 utc 3/19/2011

Electrical cable has been connected to Diaichi reactor #1 and #2. The  Tokyo Fire Department is preparing a massive water delivery to the spent fuel rod pools.  Tokyo Fire Department workers interviewed who were at the Daiichi nuclear plant were exhausted. High radiation exposure likely. TEPCO electrical workers are active in restoring power to the Daiichi power plant.

16:10 utc – 3/23/2011

I have received a negative comment by assessing blame on TEPCO and the Japanese government. Yes, blame. It is called the ‘normalcy bias’, when one may say, “I never expected that to happen”, when the unexpected happens. In this case TEPCO and the Japanese governments know that within the life span of a nuclear power plant it will be subjected to extreme conditions. They build these plants next to the ocean in the most highly active geological zone on Earth. The nuclear fuel itself has a half-life measured in 10,000’s of years. The syndicates who build nuclear power plants know that 9.0 earthquake is likely over of time, thus the likelihood of a great tsunami is equally great. There is no excuse, these large scale seismic events are a constant on Earth. Better planning and better preparedness is necessary because there will be another large earthquake on the Pacific ring of fire. The normalcy bias regarding earthquakes, weather and other such Geo changes can never be an excuse for a highly engineered, complex and expensive technology. Those involved in engineering nuclear power plants must expect the worse case scenario over the life span of a nuclear power plant, no excuses. Now, I would like to find out if solar, wind and geothermal combined can compete with nuclear power?  Has anyone calculated the long term cost of the Fukushima partial meltdown that still smolders? How many square kilometers are abandoned Fukushima prefecture? How much wind, solar power and geothermal power could be created in the abandoned radioactive land in the Fukushima Prefecture? How many more nuclear disasters does the world need to understand that nuclear power is old and unnecessary technology? Lastly, if you want your comment published on my blog, which I would like to do, do not start and end by insulting me. Just make your point and have a discourse. Thanks.

Rally for Bradley Manning, March 20/2011

In Politic on March 10, 2011 at 10:32 pm

The permit has been obtained for the rally in Quantico, Va. for March 20, 2011. The Bradley Manning support network will be there as well as a solid contingent of  ‘anonymous’ supporter will attend the rally. The Pentagon has shown its nervousness over this by asking the FBI for assistance investigating a perceived threat from Anonymous to attack the with a denial of service attack. This is nothing short of a waste of time by the FBI. The FBI will not find or catch anyone breaking a law because they do not have the resources to stop such an act or spend enough resources collecting logs from ISP’s around the world. More importantly, the psyops against the USMC Quantico jailers has begun. They jailers will never get out from under the spotlight they created for themselves by torturing Mr. Manning. USMC jailer Denise Barnes has been singled out along with several others for their direct action of torture. It seems they have lost any ‘American’ values if they ever had any to begin with, let us not forget Mr. Manning is innocent until proven guilty, the courts have not spoken a word on this matter. The only thing the courts have done thus far is to keep Mr. Manning from having his rights to a fair and speedy trail. So, the courts have denied him his basic rights and therefore we can expect that the courts will be completely biased against him. A chance for a fair trial is slipping away everyday that there is no movement by the justice system and thus the justice system has no credibility. If Mr. Manning is prosecuted in a USMC kangaroo court this will do nothing more than divide the nation further. The way the US government treats its own people confirms the obvious, the empire is failing on several fronts, the US dollar is being dumped worldwide as the reserve currency, the US dollar is becoming worthless, the US debt is out of control and a the US Federal government has no credibility as shown by the Wikleaks CableGate matter. It is encouraging to see the protests in Wisconsin for labor and democratic rights, possibly these will spread across the nation and it will be the beginning of a new USA, a nation that respects the law instead of flaunting it.  I mention the coming fall of the US empire because it is a factor in the Bradley Manning case. His treatment is symptomatic of the entire system that is oppressing the people of the USA with the most effective propaganda machine the world has ever seen. Please support Bradley Manning on March 20th and  NMAP the shit out of the Quantico USMC network, phone phreak the base with ‘polite’ discussion and statements and show up to the rally in Quantico, Va. All of the suggested actions are perfectly legal and will make the folks at USMC nervous. These efforts will encourage Bradley Manning in the fight for his life.
